The Tracy Slane award was presented to Just Credit Unions, Amy Jones for outstanding contributions of a young person to their credit union and the sector.
The award is presented each year to a young person who has made an outstanding contribution to their credit union and/or to the wider movement. It is dedicated to the memory of Tracy Slane, who worked as ABCUL’s Conference Officer until her untimely death in 2004 at the age of 25.
Nominations are received from ABCUL members across England, Scotland and Wales which resulted in Amy Jones winning the award. Amy joined the Shropshire based credit union when she was 16 beginning her role as business apprentice back in 2004. She has become an important asset to the organisation and pivotal to the credit unions nomination at the Social Enterprise awards.
ABCUL’s new President Karen Bennett welcomed Amy to the stage at this year’s conference, Karen said: “Congratulations to Amy in winning this year’s Tracy Slane Award which is incredibly well deserved.
“Amy’s nomination outlined her hard work and dedication in her role at Just Credit Union as well as her success in supporting Just Credit Union as finalists in the Social Enterprise Awards as well as in their excellent five start rating by the Fairbanking Foundation.
“It is fantastic to see such wonderful young people committed to the sector.”
Chair of Just Credit Union, Pat Buchanan, said: “We are delighted that Amy has received external recognition for the role she has played in helping Just Credit Union grow and develop. She is a real asset to the organisation and we are very proud of her.”
