On 31 August 2017, Stirling’s Provost Christine Simpson cut the ribbon and officially opened the new office of Stirling Credit Union.

Provost Simpson was invited to perform the ceremony following a short speech from the Chair of the Credit Union, Mr Gordon Stewart, during which he highlighted that this new office represents a milestone in the transition to having a membership that is open to all in Stirling and the wider community.

With over 1,000 adult and junior members and managing nearly £1,000,000 of member savings, Mr Stewart noted that the Credit Union is already a significant financial provider in the community. He said: “Ethical finance means that savings are secure, interest rates are fair membership is open to all without discrimination – and that is exactly what credit unions provide.”

In opening the office Provost Simpson thanked the many volunteers and the staff of the Credit Union and expressed her appreciation for the valuable role that the Credit Union plays in the lives of many people in Stirling.
